Libreville, Gabon

At first glance, who knows other African capitals, Libreville surprises. Facing the sea, surrounded by a succession

of wide boulevards, clean and well kept and tamed by impressive buildings, is skirting an expressway that circles

the city from one end to the other, the Gabonese capital has appearance of a modern Mediterranean city. Soon,

however, released from main roads, the visitor finds the African flavors: street vendors, uniformed schoolchildren,

businessmen in ties, women in boubou or perched on high heels strolling along the markets and stalls in maquis

all kinds hubbub of horns, taxi ranks ... the neighborhoods are never far away, easily recognizable with their

maze of potholed streets, half asphalt, half laterite and patchwork sheets, plywood and cement, where men and

women, on foot or by taxi, take part in an incessant movement from morning to night. Few roads allow to move

from one point to another without going through the expressway or the sea, which accentuates the impression that

all Librevillois hasten toward the center between 7 am and 8 am in 15h to leave to return to their outlying districts

since last law on continuous day. And since very few motorbikes circulating in Gabon (safety fault ...), beware of corks!
