Franceville, Gabon

The city feeds tourist destination ambitions, and the conduct of part of the competition for CAN allowed to activate

road infrastructure projects, tourism and hospitality. The sites near the city abound and just waiting to be exploited

even if staff training is still lacking.

Anyway, we can say that Franceville became a city of great importance in the country, although there are still missing

key elements, such as a cinema or a cultural center, into a large city.

History. Having turned Ogooué to its source, Savorgnan de Brazza founded in 1880 the first station of the French committee

of the African international association Masuku, named waterfalls. Inhabited by freed slaves, the first locality takes the name

of Francheville who later turns into Franceville.

The city is encompassed in 1893 in the vast concession of the Society of Upper Ogooué (SHO), which supports the administrative

and financial management of the region. Upper Ogooué then underwent many alterations borders. The first distinguishing

truncation Gabon and Congo attaches the Haut-Ogooué region in Gabon.
